I think this is an axiological Q or an ethics issue depending on your philosophical theory on the nature of good and evil!
Are all kinds of suffering a good or bad thing? Are some kinds good & some bad? How do U make the distinction?
All pain and suffering are bad, but anything may be turned to a good use. That does not redeem suffering, but it may redeem the sufferer.
Are all kinds of suffering a good or bad thing? Are some kinds good & some bad? How do U make the distinction?
This is a theological question as well. If you assume that people live on earth for a purpose, and that purpose was to learn and become more like God (which is what the majority think) how could we learn anything if there was no suffering? If we were not humbled by suffering or death, would we cease to learn and grow as individuals? Would we take for granted what was given to us if there was no suffering (of course we would, we are human, thats the story of Adam and Eve) Also, another question is if evil exists, and God is all-knowing or omnicient, then this means either one of two things: that God allows us to live with the constant temptaion of evil, or evil is separate from God and therefore proves he is not omnicient. You have to know the answers to all of these to be confident in what your real thoughts are about suffering. Hope this didn't confuse you too much!! Just some food for thought
Reply:If we look at suffering itself as good or evil, we miss the whole picture,
How do we handle our attitudes and emotions in spite of the suffering and what do we learn about ourselves as well as what makes us suffer.
Are we able to help others through their suffering because of the things we have suffered
