My Q was inspired by this Q by someone else:

Descartes comes to mind as a good example of a deep thinker. So does Neitzsche too! Remember this is philosophy!

anything that discovers knowledge i don't think can be a waste of time. all of these things achieve that.

1- No....thinking is important regardless of its subject..... only from thought comes deeds and discovery.
2- Depends on the specific intellectual.... some are wastes of time, and others will get you looking at the world differently. Just because someone is categorized as an intellectual doesn't mean they are all that smart.
Reply:well thinking about thinking isn't a waste of time it helps you( well it does for me) you be more aware of what is going on around you. it helps you become a deep thinker, which is not bad. And intellectuals are not a waste of time, in my opinion.
Reply:Deep thinking is not in and of itself a virtue. But most inventions and discoveries come about from fanciful cognition. Self-referential thinking is an especially favorite way of re-examining one's position and can lead to new practical insights/inventions.
