The purpose in life is chosen by each person and based in their environment, developed experiences, and specific characteristics by which they are born.
Someone whom is emotionally retarded, or with ADHD, will not have the same purpose in life; but their goals are no less great then that of Einstein or the Dali Lama. The highest purpose in life is taken by each individual.
Our decendents of several thousand years will have purposes that we can not as yet imagine. Therefore, perhaps, no one living today is capable of having significant purpose.
A person can lead their entire life without spiritual purpose, and achieve powerful things related to spiritual consciousness. Sadam Husein kept corrupt religious influence out of Iraq, but he inadvertently created the environment for spreading Wahabbi (a destructive Islamic cult). Spiritual consciousnous has been promoted, but the humanistic consequences have been devastating.
Spiritual purpose is almost always based in greed; but rarely and wonderfully, there are a few people who seek spiritual growth for altruistic purpose. The good of others, while excluding personal benefit.
Greed and spiritual growth contradict one another. Therefore, 99% of the world who claims to be spiritual are actually professing spirituality only to gain for themselves entry into a perpetual afterlife. The very greed of their desire contradicts their efforts.
