How can I price my portrait packages right?
I have a la carte pricing and want to offer package pricing for my up and coming business. I am not sure how to price the packages and what should be included.
My a la carte prices are $4 - 4x6, $6 - 5x7, $15 - 8x10 and $9 - wallets (9).
Anyone have experience in package pricing or know a site where I can get ideas? I don't want to price wrong...
How can I price my portrait packages right?
You need to look at similar prices in your area to get a feel for the market. Beyond that, you have to see what your costs are for paper, ink, etc. You also should count something for your time.
Once you add up your labor and materials, this is your break even price. You should add a percentage to that to represent profit margin. This will allow you to pay yourself and keep your supplies replenished, not to mention purchasing needed equipment and replacements.

Do some homework and check out what other local Photographers are charging. Call and pretend to be a customer or check there web sites.
You can under cut your completion to try to get more work but that is not always the best way to go. What you are selling is your skill at taking great pictures so you can also charge a flat rate to do the shoot and then mark up the prints some % over your cost.
People think pricing is simple but remember what it costs to make somthing frequently has very little to do with what the market price will be. A higher price does not mean you will make less money, you will just have less work.
