What do you think about Singapore artists who achieve success in the international arts arena?
Do you think they should receive monetary awards in the same way as Singapore sportsmen do for their successes in the international sporting arena? If yes, why so?
What do you think about Singapore artists who achieve success in the international arts arena?
It would be nice but it is not the most important at this point of time in the history of Singapore Arts scene.
People which reached their Arts achievement now do so because of passion other than monetary rewards.
I felt that it is more important to turn these sort of money (if available) into subsidies or some form of financial support to potential people who wants to pursue Arts more seriously.

In my opinion, I think they should not. Even if they achieved success and we should be proud of them, its better we give them what is rightful for them: awards. Giving monetary awards is too 'great' in that sense as they are only recognised well in Singapore and not other countries.
Reply:There is no equivalent in the arts to the gold medal in the Olympics.
Currently, we are told that a movie has been entered at the Cannes film festival and, who knows, might actually win something there. But if it did, would the ordinary Singaporean appreciate the fact, and would he bother to go see it? Why, because some "ang moh" people said its cool?
