Where should I look for a job involving photography? Should I post an ad up around town? What should I say in the ad?

Depends on what aspect of photography. Are you looking into working at a studio? How much experience do you have? Are you wanting to expand your knowledge of photography through the job? Or do you already have a good knowledge of photography and simply want to pursue a job in it?
A good starting point, in my opinion, is a popular portrait studio, like Picture People.
If you're wanting to expand your knowledge of photography through the job, try some private studios. Talk to the owner personally and explain this to him or her.
I have found a few sidejobs for a photographer on Craigslist. I see ads for photographers on there all of the time.
I'm not sure how other people do it, but I began my own portrait work simply by doing jobs for friends for a discounted price, and they would refer people they know to me.
I wish I knew exactly what type of photography job you're looking for.

First, get a portfolio of your work with black and whites, and color pics.
Apply to printing shop that print Magazine or model agencies.
We are always looking for natural photographers. That is your best bet. You can also post an ad...That won;t hurt but you should contact printing shop since this is where the final product ends before it hits the market.
A lot of printers will give you business cards of who they print for and can give you insightful info.
